[News Release] OOYOO and Otsuka Chemical Jointly Commence CO₂ Capture and Circular Use Demonstration Project

― Following the demonstration at Sakaiminato Biomass Power Plant, aiming to establish a CO₂ circular model in the manufacturing industry ―

■ Overview of the Demonstration Project

OOYOO (Headquarters: Kyoto City, President and CEO: Shogo Otani) has commenced a joint demonstration project with Otsuka Chemical (Headquarters: Osaka City, Osaka Prefecture, President and Representative Director: Kohei Tosa) regarding the capture of CO₂ derived from gas boilers at the Tokushima Plant.

This initiative follows the CO₂ capture demonstration project at the Sakaiminato Biomass Power Plant that began in July, and aims to establish a new model for CO₂ reduction and circular use in the manufacturing industry.

In this demonstration, high-performance separation membrane modules developed by OOYOO will be used to capture CO₂ from gas boiler flue gas. At the same time, the project will also verify the feasibility of circulating CO₂ within the plant by replacing a portion of the existing CO₂ used in the plant with the captured CO₂.

■ Objectives and Expected Outcomes of the Demonstration

This demonstration will be conducted with the following three main themes:

  1. Optimization of Captured CO₂ Concentration

Verify the performance of the separation membrane under flue gas conditions and clarify efficient capture conditions.

  2. Evaluation of Equipment operational stability

Evaluate membrane performance and durability during long-term operation to establish stable operating conditions for commercialization.

  3. Trial of CO₂ Circular Use

Demonstrate a plant-level CO₂ recycling model by reusing the captured CO₂ in plant processes.

This initiative will enhance the efficiency of CO₂ utilization within the plant and will be the first step toward achieving a circular carbon management in the manufacturing sector.

■ Features of OOYOO’s Separation Membrane Technology

The separation membrane independently developed by OOYOO consumes less energy compared to the conventional amine absorption method, has a simpler equipment configuration, and achieves excellent economic efficiency in terms of both initial investment and operational costs.

Furthermore, its compact and modular design allows for flexible application from small to medium-sized plants to large-scale factories.

This collaboration with Otsuka Chemical is an important milestone toward expanding its introduction in the manufacturing sector.

■ Future Outlook

This demonstration with Otsuka Chemical, following the recent initiative at the Sakaiminato Biomass Power Plant, is part of OOYOO’s move to verify and deploy its CO₂ capture system in multiple industrial fields concurrently.

In the future, we will promote its application in a wide range of industrial fields such as chemicals and energy. We plan to begin offering initial models of small-scale systems (up to 100kg-CO₂/day) in early fiscal year 2026, and also plan to develop and demonstrate medium-scale systems (up to 10t-CO₂/day) within the same year.

Furthermore, we are considering the creation of carbon credits utilizing the captured CO₂ and the development of international decarbonization businesses.

■ Regarding NEDO Support

This initiative is being implemented with the support of the “Project for Practical Application Research and Development and Mass Production Demonstration Support for Deep Tech Startups in the GX Field (GX Project)” conducted by the New Energy and Industrial Technology Development Organization (NEDO).
